Seamloft / cutting-day tools

Leave yourself a clear place to restart.

A cutting list keeps each piece, its quantity and its fabric in view. Print this blank sheet, fill it from your own pattern and keep it with the pieces. There are 12 rows and a separate note for what still needs doing.

Fill the sheet from one view and size

Write the project, pattern, view and size at the top before copying the piece list. Use the same piece names or numbers as the instructions, including small pieces such as facings and separate interfacing requirements. The sheet is a record of your pattern; its blank rows are not a suggested garment or a complete piece list.

Use one row for one material and cutting instruction. A collar cut twice in main fabric and once in interfacing needs two rows. The quantity means finished cut pieces of that material. “Cut 1 on fold” produces one unfolded fabric piece, not two separate pieces to tick off.

Print another sheet if the pattern needs more than 12 rows. Add a sheet number so an unfinished second page does not disappear behind a completed first page.

Keep quantity and orientation together

RecordWhat to put on the sheet
Piece / numberThe name or number printed on your pattern
MaterialMain fabric, lining or interfacing, with your own fabric label
QuantityThe number of fabric pieces needed for this row
Cutting notesOn fold, mirrored pair, bias or other instructions from the pattern
Cut / marksSeparate checks for the full quantity cut and the required markings transferred

When the pattern calls for one mirrored pair, write 2 in Quantity and mirrored pair in Cutting notes. Keep the two opposite pieces together before checking the row; two copies with the same orientation do not make that pair. Follow the pattern’s layout for layers, right sides and folds.

“On fold” describes where an edge goes; “bias” describes a grain direction. Copy the instructions that apply to the actual piece into Cutting notes. Resolve anything unclear before cutting.

Before the first piece

The sheet includes six preparation checks: confirm the view and size; read the fabric preparation instructions; check usable width and length; review grainline and any one-way layout; count pieces and materials; and prepare to transfer the required marks.

These checks are prompts to consult the pattern. They do not prescribe a washing temperature or assume every fabric is washable. If yardage is the open question, use the fabric yardage calculator and then verify the actual layout.

The cutting and marking guide shows how grainline placement and construction marks connect the paper instructions to the fabric. Keep the paper piece with the fabric until the required marks have been transferred.

Mark the work, not the intention

Tick Cut only when the row’s full quantity is cut. Tick Marks when the required markings for that row are transferred; write N/A if the pattern calls for none. The separate columns make “cut but still unmarked” visible.

If you stop halfway through a row, leave its Cut box open and write what is finished in the pause note. For example: Sleeve: 1 of 2 cut; cut the opposite piece next. This is a record example, not an instruction to use that quantity for your pattern.

Before restarting, compare the note with the pieces in front of you. Check the material, orientation and count, then continue. A note such as “interfacing still to cut” is more useful than a total that hides which material is missing.

Print one sheet for the table

Select Print blank checklist, choose A4 or Letter in portrait orientation and inspect the print preview. Each sheet has 12 piece rows, with one Cut box and one Marks box per row, plus the six preparation checks above them. The sheet uses dark text and lines on white; background printing is not required. Your browser’s Save as PDF option can keep a blank copy for later.

The page prints the sheet rather than the surrounding article. Nothing needs uploading and there is no email gate. The printed record does not synchronize with the app.

For a cutting list you can update in a project, see Seamloft’s cutting workflow and current availability on the product page. The app’s piece records keep quantity, on-fold, mirrored, bias and interfacing flags, with check and undo. Bring your own pattern and its instructions.
